Summary

The Facility Maintenance person will support the day-to-day needs of maintenance and operations of our head office and Calgary-based locations. This role will be responsible for operating and maintaining our facilities in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. This individual will be responsible for several tasks related to the ongoing maintenance and operation of facilities.

Responsibilities

Proactively identify and repair general building maintenance issues (i.e. painting and patching of walls, hardware/door fixes when required, etc.).
Proactively identify and improve building safety issues (i.e. wire management, and boardroom, loading dock and storage room are kept organized).
Liaise with vendors to ensure successful coordination of day-to-day and long-term facility operations and that office esthetics are maintained (i.e. light replacement, furniture reconfigurations, paper delivery).
Work with Reception to ensure timely delivery of mail/couriers/heavy lifting.
Assist with facilities’ requests ensuring all incoming issues are responded to professionally and within the agreed service levels.
Assist with implementation of identified facility related strategic initiatives.
Provide reports on activities, identify facility issues and track any actions as applicable to the Facilities Coordinator.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum High School Diploma.
Knowledge of general repair and maintenance processes.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
Must have strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize and manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Computer skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) would be considered an asset.
Some heavy lifting will be required.
Valid driver’s license.
Proven track record of good attendance.

Description

The Opportunity

  • The Physical Facilities department at The Banff Centre is looking for a trades specialist and operational leader who will contribute to the overall planning, maintenance and development of The Banff Centre Infrastructure.
  • Reporting to the Director of Physical Facilities, the Manager of Mechanical Systems plans, coordinates and directs the day-to-day operations of the plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, plant maintenance trades and operations departments.
  • This position will contribute to the timely and efficient implementation of strategic initiatives through long-range planning, project management, development of strategic partners and the ongoing operating, maintenance and enhancements of the mechanical systems infrastructure renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operation and repair of all infrastructure relating to utilities involving water, natural gas, electrical, mechanical systems, sanitary and storm sewer systems.
  • Supervision, hiring, training, performance management of trades personnel.
  • Monitors the quality and timelines of routine repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Manages logistical support required to accomplish trade related work
  • Trouble shoots emergency repairs and maintenance
  • Develops and implements work policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Assists the Director in determining future capital funding requirements for maintenance projects
  • Contributes to the development of all new facilities and renovations on campus including the selection of building equipment and participation in the building commissioning process
  • Leads work requirements, project priorities and ensures services are delivered within budget
  • Maintains statistics related to work programs, work orders, and utility consumption

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 8 years related trade experience and at least 5 years experience in a management/supervisory role overseeing the planning, operation and maintenance of large building and associated utility and mechanical systems
  • One or more Journeyman Trade certificates in either in plumbing, electrical, millwright or refrigeration and/or a 4th Class Power Engineer designation
  • Experience working and troubleshooting HVAC systems, heating plant operation, building management systems
  • Team leader with proven ability to supervise, train and motivate staff

Special Requirements

  • Candidates offered a position with the Centre, in this capacity, will be required to obtain a criminal record check through the local R.C.M.P. detachment, verifying a clear record before a final job offer can be made.

Employment Terms & Benefits

In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried full time position, subject to a 12 month probationary period.

The annual salary for this position ranges between $75,000 and $80,000 depending on experience.
